Latest News from Radio Glan Clwyd
25 October 2015
On 26 September, the Radio Glan Clwyd Outside Broadcast team were at the Tweedmill Factory Outlet in St Asaph. Thank you to the staff and customers who came out to see us. Music requests and dedications were made throughout the day, and the team were delighted at the total of £276 that was collected in donations. This money is vital in keeping the radio station on air – we are a charitable organisation, and rely on the funds raised through events like this to cover expenses such as licenses, maintenance of the studio, and insurance.
Auditions and Rehearsals for our Christmas Special!
This Christmas, we look forward to broadcasting our first ever pantomime on the radio. We are currently working with writer Denise Murtha, who has adapted a version of the popular pantomime ‘Cinderella’ so that it is suitable for broadcast on air. Committee Member Brenda Jones will direct the pantomime, with the production and editing taken care of by Johnny Beviss. Auditions were held on 18 October and the roles were cast to Radio Glan Clwyd members as follows:
AVRIL as the Fairy, GARETH McCORMICK as the Narrator, OLGA and LESLEY as Mary and Betty (who are friends of the fairy), ANDY HAYES as Buttons, TONY MANNIX as the Baron, EUGENE CAREY as the Prince, GLYN EVANS/MARK JACKSON as Dandini.
Cinderella will be played by guest star Jessica Griffiths from the Rhyl Operatic Society, and the search continues for our ugly sisters! Rehearsals continue on 1 November, recording will take place on 8 November, and you will be able to hear the special show over the Christmas period – dates/times to be confirmed. The cast gather for rehearsals (photo below).
The redevelopment and refurbishment work continues at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, and as a result Radio Glan Clwyd are relocating from the first floor to the Estates department. Our thanks to all of those people and organisations that have supported the move. We hope to be broadcasting from this new location very soon, and look forward to sharing photographs of the finished studio with all of our readers here online. The photos below give you a taster of the ‘work in progress’!
