Panto On the Air Waves…
Oh yes it is!
For the first time ever, the Radio Glan Clwyd team have joined forces with writer Denise Murtha, and members of the Rhyl Operatic Society to bring ‘Cinderella’ to the air waves this Christmas.
Cinderella, a one act panto, was written and adapted for radio by Denise Murtha, who has a vast amount of experience both in the theatre and with pantomime in particular, having worked as wardrobe mistress at the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre. The script is unique in that it is totally in rhyme.
Radio Glan Clwyd members were auditioned for the parts, and then spent weeks rehearsing, perfecting their accents, adding expression, and working together to ensure that there were no mistakes! Unfortunately, there was no Cinderella, nor any ugly sisters amongst our ranks, so we were kindly supported by members of the Rhyl Operatic Society, who joined in with the fun.
The panto was recorded and edited by committee member Johnny Beviss, who has also added sound effects and music in order to create a realistic piece of audio, so that when listeners hear the panto on air, they will feel like they are sat in the theatre. Radio Glan Clwyd President, Ann Jones AM introduces the show.
The cast were as follows: JESSICA GRIFFITHS as Cinderella, JAN BOYTON and PAM SIMPSON as the ugly sisters, AVRIL as the Fairy, GARETH McCORMICK as the Narrator, OLGA and LESLEY as Mary and Betty (who are friends of the fairy), ANDY HAYES as Buttons, TONY MANNIX as the Baron, EUGENE CAREY as the Prince, MARK JACKSON as Dandini.
You will be able to hear ‘Cinderella’ at various times over the Christmas period, including:
Sunday 6 December at 7pm
Sunday 13 December at 4.45pm
Here are some photos of the rehearsals, recordings and technical work that went on in order to prepare the panto.
