Meeting the team at Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd
On Saturday 17 March, Radio Glan Clwyd members travelled across to Bangor to meet with broadcasting colleagues at Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd. The purpose of the meeting was to share experiences and good practice. The photo above is the studio at Ysbyty Gwynedd, and left, members of both stations pose for a photo!
There are many differences between the two radio stations; Although Radio Glan Clwyd are hospital based, our license also covers the local community, whereas the focus of Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd is purely the hospital patients. The output in Bangor is largely in Welsh, whereas at Glan Clwyd the majority of the shows are in English. Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd use the ‘Myriad’ playout software and have the use of two studios, whereas Radio Glan Clwyd use a program called ‘Autoplus’ and only have one studio. Patients at Ysbyty Gwynedd tune in to their station using the ‘Hospedia’ bedside system which also provides television channels. Listeners at Glan Clwyd can tune in on 1287AM or online, using their own devices. Both stations are run by volunteers and are registered charities, and both stations share the same aim – to bring music, news, comfort and entertainment to the listeners!
It was agreed by all that the meeting was very useful, and an invitation has been extended to the Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd team to visit us at Glan Clwyd in the near future.
