Radio Glan Clwyd working with the North Wales Police
Presenter Andy Hayes was joined on air by North Wales Police Officers Sgt Mark Jones and PCSO Rebecca Evans on 25 August. The officers are both part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team, and were pleased to come on air to talk about crime and crime prevention in our area.
Andy started the interview by asking the officers about their careers to date; Sgt Mark started as a special constable patrolling Rhyl when he was just 18, whereas PCSO Rebecca initially worked in the call handling centre, and as a fluent Welsh speaker, was snapped up when she applied for a front line role as a PCSO. She now looks after the Rhuddlan and Bodelwyddan areas, which includes Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.
The officers agreed that given the nature of our area, policing was a difficult but very rewarding job. They shared top tips on air on how to protect your property against criminals, and on how you can make contact with the police in different situations. They were also promoting events such as ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ where members of the public can go along to talk to local officers on an informal basis to share their concerns. The next event of this type is on Thursday 14 September from 10am at Sainsbury’s in Rhuddlan.
Other events that you may like to attend include the 999 Awareness day in Prestatyn (Bastion Fields, 2 September) and the North Wales Police Open Day (Police HQ in St Asaph, 16 September).
Sgt Mark and PCSO Rebecca look forward to becoming regular guests at Radio Glan Clwyd in order to share information on crime prevention and staying safe. For more details on the work of our local police force, check out their Facebook page.
