Be a Santa to a Senior!
Following the great success of last years ‘Be A Santa To A Senior’, we are very excited to announce details of the initiative again this year, run by the ‘Home Instead’ Senior Care Team.
The idea behind the initiative is that gifts are donated from members of the public and are given to an elderly person living on their own over Christmas. The project is being supported by the Red Cross, Contact the Elderly and Age Connect. The North Wales Fire Service are also supporting the initiative by delivering all of the donated gifts.
Last year, over 700 people received a gift at home, and in addition, people staying in hospitals in the area, including Glan Clwyd, Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Bryn Hesketh and Llandudno, were also given gifts on Christmas Day.
This year could be the best yet for reaching people living on their own. The team co-ordinating the initiative have been contacted by some large organisations who want to do what they can to help. Cartrefi Conwy have also come on board. Not only do some of their tenants want to donate gifts but a group of their older active tenants have set up a wrapping day, where they will spend the day wrapping the donated gifts ready for the North Wales Fire Service to deliver. They also have tenants who have no family or loved ones around them, who will receive a gift and a visit this Christmas. The local Alzheimer’s Society have also offered the support of some of their staff to be gift wrappers for the day.
Conwy Council have offered their offices in Coed Pella Road, Colwyn Bay as a drop off point and Tesco Abergele have also offered to be a drop off point. Tesco Community Champion Jan Williams said, ‘We fully back the initiative, it’s great that it directly benefits local people in our own community’.
From 28 November to 15 December, you can take your donated gift to any one of the following places:
Ty Llewelyn Community Centre, Llandudno
St David’s Church, Penrhyn Bay
New Council Building, Coed Pella Road, Colwyn Bay.
Home Instead Office, Abergele
Kinmel Bay Community Library, Kinmel Bay
Nova Centre, Prestatyn
Age Connect office, Denbigh
Old Lifeguard Station, Ruthin.
The ‘Home Instead’ Senior Care Team will be in the Bay View Shopping Centre in Colwyn Bay on December 4th and 5th between 10.00am and 4.00pm collecting donations. They would also be grateful for donations of wrapping paper and other gift wrap.
Being lonely is hard at any time of the year, but Christmas is particularly difficult. The people receiving these gifts have no one. It may be just a small offering to each individual but each gift delivered will make a big difference.
You could help put a smile on the face of an older person this year 😊.
