Welcome to Radio Glan Clwyd
Number one in North Wales for Hospital and Community Radio
Tune in online or on 1287AM in Denbighshire
We are a volunteer run radio station serving both Glan Clwyd Hospital and the local community. We broadcast a mixture of music, news, information and entertainment twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, according to our programme schedule.
We currently have around thirty volunteers who undertake all of the tasks required to successfully run a radio station such as presenting programmes, selling raffle tickets, visiting the patients on the wards, administration, technical support and leading outside broadcasts.
The radio station was first set up in September 1976 at the Alexandra Hospital in Rhyl, but later moved to the first floor of Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan when it opened in 1980. Find out more about the history of the radio station by visiting the timeline page. Initially there was a socket behind each patient’s bed into which they plugged their earphones in order to listen to the radio service. Now, we broadcast on both 1287AM and online. Hospital patients are provided with a small target tuned radio and earphones totally free of charge that they can use to tune in during their stay at Glan Clwyd Hospital.
Due to the current refurbishment and redevelopment of Glan Clwyd Hospital, we have recently moved to new base in the Estates department, and our complex is made up of a reception room, office and studio. Once the work on the main entrance to the hospital has been completed, we will broadcast some of the live shows from a brand new foyer studio and retain the current area in the Estates department for training, recording, storage, administration and as a back up studio.
